Owners and research partners

VIS cooperates closely with a number of research institutions, educational institutions and health enterprises in the region, as well as the national funding agency for innovation.

Several of these constitute the owners of VIS, and others we have important partner agreements with.

Our owners

The University of Bergen (UIB) has 16,900 students spread over seven faculties, and around 3600 employees. UiB is a member of several European and global networks for universities and research. Global development, climate research and marine research are defined as the main focus areas in the strategy for UiB from 2016 to 2022.

The University of Bergen owns 33.43% of VIS.

Helse Bergen and Haukeland University Hospital is one of five local health enterprises in Western Norway, owned by the regional company Helse Vest RHF. Haukeland University Hospital has four primary areas of responsibility: patient care, research, education of health personnel and training of patients and relatives. Haukeland University Hospital is one of the most specialized hospitals in the Nordic region, with several centers of expertise and special functions at regional and national level.

Helse Bergen and Haukeland University Hospital owns 33.43% of VIS.

The Institute of Marine Research is the largest marine research institution in Norway, and offers professional advice to the authorities, business and society. The Institute of Marine Research is engaged in research within marine resources, marine environment, coastal zone and aquaculture.

The Institute of Marine Research owns 14.52% of VIS.

Siva facilitates innovation by building, owning and developing infrastructures for business, start-up companies and research environments. Siva develops knowledge and startup environments and connects them to regional, national and international networks. The partner network supports and guides thousands of contractors and start-up companies every year.

Siva owns 13.56% of VIS.

Western Norway University of Applied Sciences (HVL) is one of the largest colleges in the country, with approx. 16,000 students in five campuses: Førde, Sogndal, Bergen, Stord and Haugesund. HVL has a strong and innovative academic environment within health and social sciences, engineering and maritime subjects, teacher and music education, sports, outdoor life and public health, natural and social sciences and economics and management.

The University College of Western Norway owns 3.82% of VIS.

Norwegian School of Economics (NHH) is one of Scandinavia’s leading business schools and the students’ first priority in choosing economics education in Norway. NHH offers education at all levels and is known for high academic standards and important contributions to the international research community.

Norwegian School of Economics holds 1.23% of VIS.

Our research partners

Christian Michelsen Research / NORCE is a research organization with a focus on technological and industrial research. They have four focus areas: space, renewable energy, marine and environment and oil and gas. CMR is at the intersection of research and business. CMR is part of the research institute NORCE.

Haraldsplass Diakonale Sykehus AS acts as a local hospital for 135,000 inhabitants in Bergen and northern parts of Hordaland county. The hospital has a regional function in geriatric and palliative care (the Sunniva Center), in addition to a large surgical clinic that has distinguished itself in several areas, such as shoulder, knee and colon.

Helse Fonna is a local health enterprise owned by Helse Vest RHF, which supplies specialized health services to the more than 180,000 inhabitants of southern parts of Hordaland county, inner Hardanger and northern parts of Rogaland. Other main tasks are patient care, education of health personnel, research and training of patients and relatives (cf. the Specialist Health Services Act). Health Fonna has three somatic hospitals, a psychiatric hospital, four district psychiatric centres (DPS) and ten ambulance stations.

Kunnskapsparken Sogn og Fjordane is a regional innovation company that was established to help entrepreneurs and companies with sustainable business ideas succeed. They actively contribute to the commercialisation of business ideas and are included in the Siva incubator program.

Nofima is one of Europe’s largest business-oriented research institutes that conducts research and development for the aquaculture industry, the fishing industry and the food industry. They provide internationally recognized research and solutions that provide the business community with competitive advantages along the entire value chain.

Sjukehusapoteka Vest is the largest pharmaceutical-related environment in Western Norway. The company is owned by Helse Vest RHF and has four hospital pharmacies: Haukeland University Hospital, Førde Central Hospital, Haugesund Hospital and Stavanger University Hospital. The main task is to ensure that hospitals and patients in Rogaland, Hordaland and Sogn og Fjordane are secured drugs as well as high pharmaceutical competence and good services.

Uni Research / NORCE is a multidisciplinary research institute with more than 400 highly qualified employees from all over the world. The company is engaged in research and development within biotechnology, energy, health, climate, environment and society. Uni Research is part of the research institute NORCE.
