Start-ups proposed to investors on Valentines Day

With 48 pitches and more than 100 people in the audience – Valentines Day turned into Demo Day: The largest pitch-event in Bergen history.
16.02.2018

It is the first time ever that BTO has arranged an event like this, gathering this many investors and founders at the same time.

– This has been a fantastic day, where an impressing line up of start-ups in our region got to present themselves in front of enthusiastic investors and established industry, Today we saw solutions on real problems. Demo Day creates exciting possibilities for future business, says Anders Haugland, managing director of Bergen Teknologioverføring.

The start-ups were divided into four categories: energy, life science, media/tech and aquaculture. The start-ups showed great diversity with innovative solutions in life-saving medicine, well planning, movies from the Norwegian woods and online psychologists. The pitchers got only 5 minutes each to sell their idea. Pressure was on.

Sigmund Hjermann, CEO of Hammertech, was one of the pitchers. Hammertech develops advanced oil and gas-flow measurement products. Their products, which are base on research from the University of Bergen,  help companies improve oil recovery and to increase production.

– I am here today to find potential investors, said Hjermann, after a good round of applause from the audience.

– For us, the challenge is to find the ones with the combination of good ideas and smart people who has implementation force, stated investor Harald M. Troye in an article in Bergens Tidende (BT). Read the article from Bergens Tidende here.

Anders Haugland believes that many of the companies have a bright future ahead of them.

– These companies still have some work to do before they can say they make money. However, that time will come. Some of them will leave great footprints, and you will write about them, Haugland said to the BT journalist.

After the pitches, it was time for the after party at Marineholmen Makerspace. The party was packed, and people mingled while eating and drinking. The feedback form the participants was that the day could not have been better.

Demo Day would not have happen without our partnership with Accel.no, GCE Subsea, NCE Seafood Innovation Cluster, NCE Media, MCE Maritime Cleantech, Connect Vest and Innovation Norway. Thank you for a great day!
